At Mermaids, we believe that everyone should feel supported at work, cared for at school, and taken seriously at the doctors. Yet we know, this is too often not the case for many trans people across the UK.
To create a world where trans people can thrive, we must support the people who provide support to our community.
At a time where trans people are facing growing hostility just for being themselves, it’s so important that employers, educators and other professionals stand up for inclusion.
Recent research by TUC revealed that just one in three trans people shared that they are trans with their manager, and almost half were ‘carefully selecting’ who they tell they are trans at work. The decision to keep who are a secret is not taken lightly, and it shows how far workplaces still have to go to be truly inclusive.
Workplaces can do more to uplift their LGBT+ staff members. It is everyone’s responsibility to create a safe and inclusive culture at school, at work, and beyond, where everyone can be their authentic selves.
That’s why today we are launching our brand-new training module, Supporting Trans People in the Workplace.
This 1.5-hour module will walk you through the unique barriers trans people may face when entering and maintaining employment, as well as recommendations for supporting anyone transitioning at work. It’s a great starting point for any employer who wants to better support trans people at work.
Trans young people deserve the freedom and confidence to explore their gender wherever their journey takes them, free from fear, isolation and discrimination.
The more supportive workplaces we have, the fewer barriers trans young people will experience when finding employment as a young adult.
All our training is designed to give anyone who is supporting trans people the most up to date and relevant information, enabling them to be confident in supporting LGBTQ+ communities and embracing trans people within their organisation.

Our range of CPD certified training modules also includes:

  • Supporting Trans, Non-Binary and Gender Diverse Young People
  • Neurodiversity and Trans Identities
  • LGBTQ+ Mental Health
  • LGBTQ+ Healthcare

Our training modules are interactive, informal and fun, and are suitable for groups of up to 30 people, either virtually or in person. We can also create sessions bespoke to your needs, for any group size.

So, get in touch with our training team today and play your part in building a world where every young person can grow up healthy, happy and heard. Or, head to our webpage to find out more about our training offerings.
