Amplifying your voice
The Policy team at Mermaids is here to amplify the voices of trans young people, with our work centred on ensuring that trans young people thrive in every aspect of their lives. We do this by working with the Government and public bodies to improve their policies to ensure they’re fully inclusive and advancing trans equality.
We regularly update this page with live public consultation and inquiries that you may wish to personally respond to. Find out the latest live public consultations you can respond to by visiting this page.
As part of our advocacy, we will submit consultation responses wherever possible, using the lived experience and testimony of young trans people and their families. Here you will find links to our responses so you can see exactly what we are asking government and public bodies to do to advance the rights of trans young people in this country.

Write to your MP
It is one of the primary duties of MPs to represent the views of their constituents in Parliament. As a constituent, it is your right to have your voice heard on issues that affect you and other people in your area. Writing to your MP is a great way to ensure that your MP, regardless of the political party they belong to, knows your views.
Over the years, the brilliant young people we work with have voiced how many conversations and decisions regarding young trans people are had, without their voices being heard. To help trans youth get their voices heard, we created MANGO, a trans-led, 12-week “Activism and Advocacy” online program for gender diverse young people.
