You might see Mermaids at your local pride event – but we also run a number of events for transgender and gender non-confirming children, young people and their families throughout the year.
Mermaids organises residential weekends for families with children and young people up to (and including) the age of 19. These inclusive weekends provide an opportunity for families (including siblings) and young people to relax in an environment that is free from judgement and where the everyday pressure to conform or explain is removed.
A variety of speakers are invited to attend, not only to show that being transgender is something to be celebrated, but to empower and enable families and young people to access the best care possible. Entertaining activities are laid on for the young and not-so-young and there are opportunities to learn from professionals, peers and people at various stages of their gender journeys.
There are now over 100 pride events in the United Kingdom and we recognise the importance of each and every one of them as embodying the spirit of LGBT+ protest and celebration. We would love to be represented at all of them, so if you are able to run a stall at your local pride, please click below to send our pride team an email.
LGBT History Month
LGBT History Month is an annual month-long observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history, and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements. It spans the whole of February in the UK. We support a number of events during LGBT History Month with stalls and speakers.
Transgender Day of Visibility
International Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual event occurring on March 31 dedicated to raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide, as well as a celebration of their contributions to society. Please click below to email our events team if you would like Mermaids to support your #TDoV event with either a stall or a speaker.
Transgender Day of Rememberance
Transgender Day of Remembrance, observed annually on November 20, is a day to memorialise those who have been murdered as a result of transphobia and to draw attention to the continued violence endured by transgender people. Please click below to email the events team if you would like Mermaids to support your #TDoR event with either a stall or a speaker.
Annual General Meeting
An important event, where we take time to review the work that Mermaids has performed over the past year. We welcome as many of our parents and young people to attend to help us celebrate and feed ‘forward’ to help guide our work into the future. Children (inc siblings) are welcome and entertainment will be provided for them to allow parents to participate in the AGM itself, knowing that their children are safe.
