Miles for Mermaids is back for 2024! Get active this March and take action to change the lives of young trans people across the UK.

Taking part couldn’t be easier. Simply sign up, choose your distance, and get moving to raise vital funds for Mermaids.

Maybe you’ll choose to lace up your running shoes, pull on your walking boots, jump on your bike or dive into the pool. How you complete your miles is completely up to you!

This is your chance to challenge yourself to get active for one very important reason. To help ensure trans young people and their families can continue to access the emotional, informative and peer-to-peer support they need.

Our amazing supporters (you!) are the reason we’re able to keep helping the trans community, year after year. So this March, we’re asking you to get active with your fundraising by taking on Miles for Mermaids.

We want you to have fun and stay safe so it’s important to choose a fundraising activity that is right for you. If you have any health concerns, we strongly recommend that you speak to your doctor before taking on a physical challenge. Remember, fundraising should always be a fun and empowering experience and it should never impact negatively on your physical or mental wellbeing.

  • What is the fundraising target?

There is no minimum fundraising target to take part in Miles for Mermaids. Every pound you raise will make a difference to young trans people and their families.

  • How many miles do I have to complete?

Choose a challenge that’s right for you! We suggest aiming for either 25, 50, 75 or 100 miles throughout the month of March.

  • What activity do I have to do to complete the challenge?

That’s totally up to you! Walk, run, cycle or swim, you can complete the challenge by doing any activity that allows you to track your miles. You might even want to mix it up and count miles from a variety of different activities.

  • Do I need to complete my challenge distance all in one go?

No, this is an accumulator challenge so all the miles you track throughout the month count towards your challenge total.

  • How should I track my miles?

We recommend using Strava to track your miles. You’ll be able to link your Strava to your fundraising page, then all your sponsors will be able to see how well you’re doing with your challenge!

  • Can I track my miles at the gym?

Absolutely! If the piece of equipment you’re using tracks your distance you can count the miles.

  • How should I collect sponsorship?

We recommend setting up a JustGiving page to collect all of your donations. All the donations you receive on JustGiving will be automatically transferred to Mermaids.

If you want to fundraise offline, you can email us for a sponsorship form and send in your donations once your fundraising has finished.

  • How do I get people to sponsor me?

You can find some top tips on how to make the most of your JustGiving page here.

  • How do I pay in offline donations?

You can pay in any offline donation you receive on our website and state ‘Miles for Mermaids’ as the ‘reason for donation’.

Once you have paid your offline donations to Mermaids, you can ensure they are reflected on your JustGiving fundraising page total by following these instructions.

  • What do I get if I take part?

We listened to your feedback and have decided not to send out medals for Miles for Mermaids this year. By removing this cost, more funds can go directly towards our services to help young trans people and their families.

We hugely appreciate every amazing person who chooses to fundraise for Mermaids and will be sending a unique digital certificate to everyone completing the 2024 challenge.
