Our ongoing mission to support
We are receiving a high volume of calls to our helpline from young people who are scared by what’s happening and are facing a long period of isolation in often-unfriendly environments with little opportunity to find comfort and support. Whilst parents are worried about how to support their children during a period of social isolation, many of whom deal with significant mental health difficulties.
Amidst all of this, the charity is facing considerable challenges; we are already seeing a reduction in individual donations, we’ve been forced to cancel some of our residential weekends, as well as our local groups and training sessions, which was a significant source of income for the charity.
DigiFest 2020
Our aim is to give people a sense of real community. We want to let the young people and families we support know that they are not alone. DigiFest 2020 is a series of interactive online events for our families and supporters.
Over 6,000 people joined us on Saturday 4th April and raised an incredible £14,097.34 for Mermaids – a huge thank you to everyone who donated.
Our guests brought families and supporters together for an inspiring and uplifting day, streamed directly into people’s homes.
We kicked off with breakfast with our CEO Susie and Munroe Bergdorf, where Munroe officially became a patron of Mermaids live on air. We were also joined by many young people and parents that Mermaids support, as well as guests Divina De Campo, Duncan James, Lorraine Kelly, John Barrowman, Lady Phyll and Dan Howell, to name a few!
