Trans Inclusive Law Firm Training
Demonstrating that the core values of diversity and inclusion run through every layer of a business is only becoming more important for clients as well as law firms themselves. To respond to an increase in requests for such information, we are delighted to launch breakfast or lunchtime training sessions, focussing on supporting transgender, non-binary and gender diverse colleagues and clients.
This is the fastest way for lawyers to be trained up by a qualified solicitor working in the diversity and inclusion sector and demonstrate market-leading techniques in workplace LGBTQIA+ inclusion. This can transform not only your business with the LGBTQIA+ community, but also be a catalyst for internal culture change. It is ideal for any law firm that is doing a Pro Bono project with us as well as for LGBTQIA+ Networks.
This training has been specifically developed for legal professionals and support staff working in the legal sector and will give information on a number of topics, including:
- the use of up-to-date terminology to discuss trans people
- the legal landscape for the trans community including challenges and key legislation
- tips for how firms/chambers and lawyers can support transgender colleagues
- how to work with transgender clients effectively and respectfully
“Working with Mermaids on the legal name change clinic was a really rewarding experience. Mermaids understood that not everybody came to the table with the same awareness of the issues faced by young LGBTQ+ individuals and provided fantastic resources and training in addition to live support during the clinic. It was incredibly heartening to see the immediate effect (even over Zoom!) that the clinic had, simply by providing a safe space where there were no “silly” questions and where these individuals or their parents could gain access to the legal knowledge and resources that they needed to help them along in their name change journey. It was definitely a pro bono opportunity where I felt like I was making a real difference, and I’m excited to continue being a part of it.”
