We’re a friendly and very welcoming group who meet once a month to share our experiences and support each other. We love to welcome new families and there’s always a warm drink, friendly chat and maybe even a biscuit or two to be had.

Hi, I’m Carrey, there wasn’t a local group available for us but, with the help of Mermaids, I managed to find some other local families and together we built our wonderful group. The attendance varies, but there are a few wonderful regulars ready to welcome you. We have lots of games to play, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and squash to drink. There is onsite parking, a park and fields outside so you can let any younger kids blow off some steam. We chat about everything, anything and sometimes even gender stuff! Most of all it’s just nice to be in a room full of people who get it and know how you feel; know what you’re going through.

Our Liverpool group has been running for years and is a lively and friendly group. A mix of children, young people and parents all attend the group and they always love to welcome new members!

London is the latest addition to our local groups. During the Covid-19 restrictions, we’ve been meeting virtually alongside members of our Essex group. We’re really looking forward to being able to get together in person soon! We’re a really warm and welcoming group of both parents and young people. We have members from across London, and slightly further afield and would love to see more new faces.

Hi I`m Kris and Mermaids helped me so much that I wanted to help others local to me, so together with my friend we set up our Malvern group. Our group started around 2018 and we have a parents’ group and a young people’s group. The young people often have craft or baking or making things for Pride or TDoV so it’s never boring! The parents drink hot drinks, talk and share our experiences and everyone is welcome. We were planning a swimming group for our young people and hope to start that up as the current restrictions are lifted.

Our group has been running for seven years, so is well established. It offers peer support for parents/carers, children and young people. Before Covid-19 lockdown we had 40 families connected to the group with 15-30 people attending each session. We hold the group in a central location to enable easy access via public transport, where we meet once a month for three hours. We talk about many different subjects and also have guest speakers visit from time to time. Be assured you will find a friendly atmosphere at the group and new members will be greeted with a warm welcome.

North Staffordshire

We are a small group of parents who meet once a month to offer support in relation of being parents of transgender children. Paula and Diane are the group facilitators; they are both parents of transgender children and have varied experience to help support other families.

Our newest local group to start meeting, we’re excited to see how our group grows and blossoms over time. Looking forward to meeting any newcomers to the group soon, we promise a warm welcome!

We are a very friendly group currently numbering 24 families in all, although at any meeting we probably have five to eight families attending. The sessions take place at a safe and child-friendly location in north Portsmouth which is easily accessible by both motorway and by rail. We are always delighted to meet new members, whether parents, carers, sibling, children or teens. Hope to see you soon – Barbara.

Hi, I’m Sarah, and along with Barbara, I facilitate the group in Reading, Berkshire. We’re a welcoming group supporting families in the Berkshire area and beyond! We have been running for over three years now and have supported over 40 families in that time. We have young people of all ages attend our group, along with their families, and I’m told the biscuit selection is second to none!
